Fall Decorating Dos and Don’ts: How to Achieve an Elevated Autumn

Don’t: Invest in plastic

I know, I know. I’m starting off controversial. I know how much some of you love your inflatable Jack Skellingtons and pumpkin blowmolds. If it makes you and, more importantly, your kids happy, do it. I’m not here to yuck anyone’s yum.

But if you’re looking for a more elevated, elegant Autumn, the plastic has got to go. Luxury Fall decor is all about natural, organic elements that highlight the change of seasons. Can you incorporate some spooky elements? Sure! Think witches’ hats suspended above your doorway or a flock of cutout bats adorning your home. Better yet, layer heirloom decor pieces to honor your history.

Don’t: Buy out Homegoods or Michaels

While both stores have some beautiful options for the Fall season, you do not need to spend a ton of money to achieve an elegant look. Plus, if you purchase too much decor, you’re bound to fall into the plastic trap (see above). Some farm fresh mums, pumpkins, and a bit of elbow grease can produce superior results and will help support your local small businesses.

My recommendation? Buy a grape vine wreath from Michaels and make a stunning dried hydrangea wreath. It’s easier than you think and will cost you roughly $10. Dry your end of summer blooms to accent the wreath. Or forage for branches to make a Fall doorway arch.

Do: Hire a Seasonal Decorator

Still feeling overwhelmed by the decorating process? Hire a Seasonal Decorator! We hand-curate, install and, under certain conditions, even remove the decor at the end of the season. Seasonal decorators save you time and hassle. At Warm Welcome Decor, we scour local farms for the best quality pumpkins and gourds. We pack it all into our vehicles and do all the heavy lifting during design and removal. You receive a professionally designed installation to enjoy for the entire season and don’t have to pick hay out of your car for the next few months. You simply pull into your driveway and enjoy coming home.

Do: Stay True to Your Aesthetic

Want a pastel pumpkins design with feminine elements? Tell your Seasonal Decorator! Most decorators will do almost anything to make our clients happy. Please trust us if we say something is structurally unsound! But otherwise, feel free to inject your personality into the installation. It is your home or business. The decor should look and feel like you.

Always communicate color preference and the vibe you’re looking to achieve. Going for traditional Fall? Perhaps oranges, deep reds and browns work best for you. Like a contemporary twist? Muted greens, blues, pinks and whites are probably more you. Describe the feeling you’re looking to evoke in guests. A good seasonal decorator will make this feeling a reality.
